Designer Spotlight: Brooke Wagner Design

Brooke Wagner Design, established by Brooke Wagner in 2003, has become a household name for southern California interior design. Based in Corona del Mar, California, Brooke Wagner Design focuses on timeless design and architecture with a modern approach, transforming homes with their signature aesthetic. From custom new builds with ocean views in southern California to cabins in the mountains of Aspen and Park City to grand lake houses in upstate New York and the midwest, BWD has designed all kinds of homes across the country. We caught up with Brooke to hear more about her design process and journey with BWD.

Since accompanying her father to construction sites as a little girl, Brooke has had a love for interior design and the homebuilding construction process. Her father was a custom home builder and spurred her interest in interior design. Brooke exclaimed, “I’ve been interested in design for as long as I can remember- I even did my senior project in high school on interior design!” Since its inception, Brooke has transformed BWD into an industry tastemaker, employing a team of ten women. For women who are thinking about starting their own business, Brooke’s advice is to “start small and grow organically” to find success in your field.

With projects spanning the United States, it is important to Brooke to stay true to her style while adapting to the many different locations. Brooke explained, “We love keeping the bones of a project cohesive to our signature aesthetic, but always want to incorporate the local surroundings and the clients’ interests and preferences.” BWD does this by getting inspired by the location and making sure the mood and palette of the home fit the environment. When decorating, Brooke thinks “accessories, some art, and smaller scale textiles can embrace current trends, but the predominant pieces should be warm and timeless.” When looking for inspiration, Brooke credits her “amazing vendors that are constantly bringing us new products” and the “craftsmen and artisans that can bring our visitons to life with tangible art and furniture.”

Brooke’s favorite part of the design process is install day- “there is nothing better than seeing it all come together!” The satisfaction of her clients is Brooke’s top priority. “Happy clients at the end of a project are 10x better than any advertising you can buy,” Brooke explains. One of her favorite projects she’s done is her Bayshores project- “the creative freedom that they trusted us with produced a cohesive and beautiful project that all teams involved in were extremely proud of.” Our Taupe Circle and Jute Circle silkscreens on burlap look amazing hung side by side in one of the bedrooms.

When choosing artwork for a project, BWD creates a balance of different mediums, mixing photography, sculptural pieces, and paintings to achieve the final look. They look to their clients to choose which pieces resonate with their taste and then fill the space. When asked about working with VC, Brooke said “Visual Contrast is always a pleasure to work with as there are so many creative options and mediums to pull from. We have been able to provide design direction for completely custom pieces that exceeded ours and our clients expectations.” BWD often sends us textile cuttings to be color matched for the perfect fit for their customized artworks. We love seeing all the ways they use our art in their beautiful interiors!
