Sculpted Panels
The Sculpted Panels are an experiment in texture and contrast, with smoothly sculpted moulding paste counteracting highly textural handmade paper. Overlapping sculpted forms and paper squares fill the composition, creating a collection of contrasting smooth and rough shapes. Monochromatic colour schemes flatten the surface, while the raised sculpted shapes and the fibres in the textural paper give dimension. The handmade quality of the carved surface gives these pieces an aged feel, but their geometric designs add a modern quality. The relatively minimal composition allows the viewer to focus on the complex materials being used, emphasising the natural quality of the surface and the simplicity of the shapes. As large panels, these pieces are powerful yet calming, drawing your eye in and prompting you to come in for a closer look.
