Introducing Our New Photography

We are so excited to announce the launch of our new photography section. With photography being a digital medium, we integrate handmade elements into our photography to give it the Visual Contrast touch. Our photography is perfect for elevating your space and giving it a modern or vintage look with our range of styles.

Adding a handmade feel to our photography, we print images on a handmade Japanese washi paper to produce a beautiful vintage effect. The semi-transparent paper is thin and slightly textured, giving the photographs both warmth and depth. Our Found Photography collection is printed in this manner to emphasize the age and subject of the images. Originally glass negatives from the late 19th century, these beachside scenes evoke feelings of nostalgia and reminiscence. Bought at auction in Europe, the glass negatives are first digitized with the help of an expert at the Getty Center in Los Angeles and then turned into digital images to print. The Japanese washi paper transforms these photographs into timeless images, giving them a new life.

We also use this style of printing for the Abstract Crescendo series, featuring photographs of the Walt Disney Concert Hall in downtown Los Angeles. An architectural masterpiece by Frank Gehry, the building’s exterior is made up of curved stainless steel, mimicking silver sails. The photographs, shot by our photographer Alex Rose, employ zooming and cropping to create abstract close-ups of the building. The modern images are juxtaposed with their handmade paper substrate, giving the photographs a vintage effect. Pair the three black and white photographs together to make an abstract statement in your home.

For a more modern approach, we’ve employed our signature silkscreened color blocking on black and white photography. Adding a bold graphic element revamps the photograph and the overlaid transparent shape brightens the image with its color. This method is used for the Color Blocked Palms, with a colorful circle overlaid on a diptych of black and white palm fronds. Printed on 100% cotton paper, the photographs are sharp and defined, creating contrast in the black and white image. Playful and youthful, these diptychs will provide a fun element to any space.
