Designer Spotlight: Jessie Ann Design

With a focus on clean lines, natural materials, and neutral color palettes, Jessie Ann Design, an interior design firm based in Newport Beach, creates serene and inviting spaces in southern California. Jessie Ann, the founder and principal designer, takes sophisticated minimalism to a new level, mixing statement pieces with different subdued textures and finishes to design a balanced and grounded space. We invited Jessie Ann to tell us more about her design inspiration and the process for choosing art in her projects.

When describing her design process, Jessie Ann stated “I’ll first look for inspiration within the home I’m designing, whether it’s the architecture or environment.” Highlighting unique elements of the home and surroundings allows Jessie Ann to craft more cohesive spaces, connecting the project to its location. Jessie Ann credits her upbringing in California and Montana with shaping her style into what it is today, explaining “I was born at the beach and then always on a ranch growing up, so my inspiration draws from both areas.”

Above all, Jessie Ann prioritizes creating a casual, laid-back home that feels lived-in and inviting. She does this through incorporating nature into her design through greenery, natural materials such as driftwood, and earthy warm color palettes. Regardless of whether the project is more coastal or modern, Jessie Ann claims natural elements are truly “versatile and timeless,” transforming her projects and giving them a grounding feature. Despite the cool and casual nature of her design, Jessie Ann loves “surprising moments, that make someone say, ‘Wow, I wasn’t expecting that.’” Whether it’s an interesting fabric or large piece of artwork, she loves elements that elevate the home, create contrast, and make a statement.

Jessie Ann emphasized the importance of art in her projects, stating it not only “can change your feelings but it can change the whole house.” She loves art pieces with a story behind them, whether the artwork was made in a unique way or the artist has an interesting backstory. Jessie Ann uses the colors and textures of artwork to connect different elements of her design, tying together the whole project. For her Catamaran project, she requested a piece of art that would create a “wow moment” in the living room of the home and our Horizons indigo definitely delivers!
